Coco Kind

Coco Kind launched in November of 2014 by Pricilla Tsai who formerly was a Wall Street investment banker. She struggled with intense hormonal acne and when prescriptions kept failing, she decided to take matter into her own hands and resort back to the basics. The brand’s mission is bring clean, conscious, and accessible beauty for all. They’re extremely socially conscious and all of their products are certifiably organic, come in recyclable packaging, and under $30.

Oil to Milk Cleanser $18

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This cleanser is so nice. Straight from the tube, it’s a thick texture similar to ointment, but it easily becomes a silky smooth texture once mixed with water. This is an oil cleanser and I like to double cleanse with Youth to the People’s Superfood Cleanser. The oil in this cleanser doesn’t leave my face feeling dry, in fact, my face tends to feel even more moisturized. It has a very subtle herbal scent to it which I really enjoy.

Rosewater Facial Toner $17

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I didn’t notice a huge difference when I began using this compared to when I didn’t use this, but I have noticed my face has looked really smooth recently. This toner is very light and smells fresh and clean. I like that its only ingredient is rose water, so I know that there’s no additional drying alcohols. I spray this all over my face right after I finish washing my face, but before I put on my texture soothing cream moisturizer.

Revitalizing Eye Cream $18

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

So far I really am liking this product. The applicator is nice because the product never gets contaminated by my fingers and the metal means it’s always a little cool which feels nice under the eyes. I haven’t noticed any dramatic differences in my under eyes

Daily SPF $24

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a physical sunscreen and I’ve only ever used chemical sunscreens. Effectiveness wise, both physical and chemical sunscreens block UV rays from reaching the skin. Chemical sunscreens do this by absorbing UV rays and then converting them into other substance our body is more capable of handling, like heat. Physical sunscreens sit on the surface of the skin and actually block the rays from ever reaching our skin, acting more like a barrier. As a result physical sunscreens tend to have a little more of a white cast and they take longer to fully soak into the skin. This sunscreen, being a physical sunscreen, does have more white cast than I’m used to, but after a few minutes, it nicely soaks in and doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy or oily like most physical sunscreens do. I really liked the texture of this sunscreen and I like how light it feels once applied.

Turmeric Tonic $11

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I had a few dark spots from healing acne on my face and this tonic really helped lighten those areas up. The tonic is a very thin liquid so sometimes it ran a little, but I just used my fingers to rub it back to the problem areas. My only worry with this product is the fact that is uses turmeric. Turmeric has loads of healing benefits both externally and internally (consuming turmeric is believed to help strengthen the immune system). However, turmeric has also been used to dye textiles and once it touches clothing it stains bright orange. Now, I’m not sure if this product will stain like turmeric tea or powder does, but honestly, I don’t want to find out.

Texture Soothing Cream $20

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I actually have been in the market for a thicker moisturizer since my skins been really dry lately from the weather and the pool. This moisturizer has (rightfully) earned its permanent spot in my routine. The cream is on the thicker side but doesn’t feel thick on the skin. It leaves my skin with a dewy finish and evenly soaks into every area. The smell of celery is super refreshing and remind me of juice cleanses. What’s best of all is that it comes in a small reusable glass jar!

Resurfacing Sleep Mask $22

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This mask is pretty light weight and I wake up in the morning with a glowing face. I like how this mask comes with a little spoon to help scoop it out without my fingers touching it; I feel like reaching into any skin care product is contaminating it in some way. This mask is a little on the runny side, but overall I think it works really well. Since I’ve been using it, I’ve noticed the dark spots on my face lessening and my general skin coloration evening out.

My Matcha All Over Moisture Stick $9

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I really have been loving this little moisturizer stick. I carry it everywhere with me in my purse. When I’m out and about, it works wonderfully as lip balm, but I usually end up using it directly on my face. Since I live in Minnesota, in the winter, the wind can really dry out your cheeks whenever you’re outside for longer than a few minutes. Just a quick swipe of this stick though and my skin no longer feels so tight and dry. Also, I think it’s important to note that although green, this product doesn’t show up green on your face. If anything, it cancels out a little bit of my redness, but besides that, it’s basically colorless. The size it really fun, it reminds me of those big sunscreen sticks I used to use when I was a kid and it makes my hands feels so small.

Golden Elixir $25

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I’ve had really bad experiences with oil in the past, but so far, my skin has been loving this one. I’ll try not to go on too much about how much I love it since Coco Kind has unfortunately discontinued it, but this has quickly become a staple in my routine. The vitamin A and E in this oil protects the skin from day to day damage while also helping the skin maintain a healthy balance and prevent future loss of moisturize. What’s also really nice about this oil is its versatility. It can be used on your face, body, and even hair. On hair it helps to replenish moisturizer and add shine. And as always, this oil comes in a sturdy glass jar with a pump top.

Leaving Remarks

I am fully in love with this brand, like completely in love. Across the board, all of their products are amazing and what’s even better is that they all come in glass containers (yay sustainability). Most of these products can be found at your local Target as well which I feel like increases my love for this brand, they really do walk their talk. Coco Kind prides themselves on being a highly available and highly affordable brand. By being sold at Target and pricing all their products under $30, Coco Kind easily meets both of these objectives.
